* Attached / multi-unit homes
o Apartment (called 'flat' in Europe and Asia) - An individual unit in a multi-unit building.
o Multi-family house - Also called a Floor to be occupied by a single family.
o Terraced house - A number of houses in a row with a wall common to the left as well as to te right.
o Condominium - Building or complex, similar to apartments, but owned by individuals.
* Semi-detached homes
o Duplex - Two units with one shared wall.
* Single-family detached home
The size of an apartment or house can be ascribed in square feet or meters being the area of 'living space', excluding the garage and other non-living spaces as in the US; or it being the area of the walls enclosing the home, including any attached garage and non-living spaces as in Europe.
The number of rooms can also be a criterian to categorize a home. A studio apartment has a single bedroom and kitchen with no living room along. A one-bedroom apartment has a living or dining room along with a bedroom. Two bedroom, three bedroom, and larger units follow the same logic, i.e., a living or dining room along.
